API Testing with Postman

Practice project: a Postman collection covering positive and negative scenarios for a public REST API.

Status: Planned. This page describes the plan and scope. Results and artifacts will be added only after the work is done.

Context

An independent practice project to build a well-structured Postman collection against a public demo REST API that allows testing.

Role

Sole author. Practice work, not client work.

Objective

Show that each endpoint returns the right status codes, response structure, and validation errors for both valid and invalid input.

Scope

In scope

  • CRUD endpoints with positive and negative cases
  • Status codes and response schema checks
  • Authentication behavior where the API supports it

Out of scope

  • Load and security testing

Approach

  1. Map endpoints and define expected behavior from the API docs
  2. Write Postman tests with assertions on status, body, and schema
  3. Use environments and variables so the collection is reusable

Artifacts

  • Postman collection — not yet published

Results

Not yet available.

Reflection & next steps

Next: add a CLI run (Newman) to CI so the collection runs on every change.
